Bras can be so frustrating – finding the right fit and size, finding something actually comfortable and/or sexy, and having it last more than a few months. And while I can’t make bra shopping more enjoyable, at least I can share with you some good companies to shop from for all types of bras and sizes 🙂
I also wanted to share some changes I’m making to my category reviews – all good things! I’ve gotten a lot more Canadian followers on Instagram and TikTok, so I’m trying to incorporate whether or not companies ship to Canada in the overviews. If you’re from Canada and reading this – hello! I grew up about an hour outside of the border with Canada and have a deep love for your country. I’m so excited to be helping you guys out!
Secondly – I am still trying to figure out the best way to determine if a company is supporting Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. If you have resources to share, please do in the comments! Note, I don’t like using sites like bdnassh.com because they don’t have any information on why a company is included and I’m all about the sources. In the meantime, if I find something that seems questionable on the issue, I will include it.
Local, Direct, Thrifting, & Free
-
Local: If you have a local bra store/boutique, DEFINITELY shop there. They often have sales associates that can help you with getting the right fit and have less-well known brands that can be great.
-
Direct: If you have a particular brand you like that you bought from a retailer, see if they have an option to order directly from them online.
-
Thrifting & Free: Bras can be trickier to thrift for, as a lot of thrift stores don’t sell them. But if you’re interested, ask your local thrift store if they have them! You can also use Buy Nothing groups to find bras, they may not be listed but you can always make a request.
Good Options:
-
Wacoal/Freya/Bravissimo: Wacoal develops high-quality bras in A-K cup sizes and band sizes up to 46. Freya focuses on larger cup sizes with availability from B-O and band sizing up to 40. Bravissimo supports D+ cup sizes and band sizes up to 42. Wacoal and Freya are consistently mentioned on Reddit for high-quality and longevity.
-
The Details: Wacoal, Freya, and Bravissimo are all owned by Wacoal Holdings Corp., a Japanese company publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. They have not spent any money on lobbying the last two years and they support DEI at a corporate level and at Wacoal America specifically.
-
What they have: Wacoal has bras, shapewear, lingerie and underwear. Freya has bras and lingerie, swimwear, sports bras/activewear, and underwear in up to 2XL. Note – Bravissimo is not currently accepting online orders from the US due to a warehouse fire, though they are working to fix this in the next few months.
-
Pricing: Low to mid-range. Wacoal’s cheapest t-shirt bra I found was $17.60 (on sale from $44) and their most expensive lingerie/bra item I found was a body suit for $110. Freya’s cheapest bra I found was $62 while their most expensive was a strapless bra for $72.
-
Where to order: You can shop Wacoal online in both the US and Canada or at one of their in-store retail partners. Freya ships to the US or you can find their styles in-store at one of their retail partners across the US and Canada.
-
Harper Wilde: Harper Wilde focuses on inexpensive, well made and comfortable bras and intimates in sizes up to DDD/F, 42 band size, and 6XL for underwear. They’re known for their wireless styles but also have wired options as well. Harper Wilde offers a recycling kit for $12 where you can send up to 6 bras and 12 pairs of underwear to them and get a $10 credit.
-
The Details: Founded by Jenna Kerner & Jane Fisher and funded through venture capital. Harper Wilde does not have a profile on OpenSecrets. They do not have a public diversity policy, but they do donate 1% of their proceeds to Girls Inc which has an A rating on CharityWatch. Just to mention, Harper Wilde did run a weird/creepy instagram ad in 2023 but pulled the ad after consumer backlash.
-
What they have: Bras, underwear, pajamas, and shapewear/undergarments.
-
Pricing: Low to mid-range. Cheapest bra/bralette item I found was on sale for $19 (originally $38) and highest was $58.
-
Where to order: Online in the US, currently not available in Canada
Soma: Soma sells bras and other intimates in multiple styles including wireless, with inclusive sizing up to I cup size and 44 band size.
-
The Details: Owned by Chico’s, which is publicly traded with institutional investors as the largest shareholders. Chico’s supports DEI and has not spent money on lobbying since 2008.
-
What they have: Bras, lingerie, underwear, shapewear, swimwear, pajamas, apparel basics
-
Pricing: Low to mid-range. Their least expensive bra I found was a bralette for $19.99 (on sale from $39), while their most expensive is $128.
-
Where to Order: Online for both US & Canada, and retail locations across the US.
Panache: Panache focuses on creating bras, sports bras, and swimwear for bigger chested women. Their sizing starts at D cup and they have bras in band sizes up to 46 and cup sizes up to O, though the number of styles available goes down with the higher end of the large sizes. You can use their fit guide to figure out your sizing and shop by size to ensure they have what you need.
-
The Details: A UK-based company that is family owned and operated by the Power family, with Anthony Power as the CEO. They do not have a profile on OpenSecrets. I can’t find a diversity policy, but since they’re British they may not have one as diversity may not be as much of a focus over there (though it should be!). Panache does have a great manufacturing policy though where they only work directly with 6 factories in China and Vietnam. They do not allow their manufacturers to subcontract order fulfillment (which is often where labor standards can go awry) and they have their own staff based in those countries to help manage quality and labor standards.
-
What they have: Bras across a variety of styles including nursing, sports bras/activewear, and swimwear. They do not have underwear.
-
Pricing: Mid-range. Their cheapest bra I found is $56 and the most expensive bra/lingerie category item I found was this bodysuit at $115.
-
Where to order: You can shop online from the US, though shipping costs $12.95 as it’s coming from the UK. You can also find one of their in-store retail partners in the US, Canada, and Australia.
Ewa Michalak: Polish-based company with super inclusive sizing from AA to P cup sizes and band sizing from 28 to 54. A lot of Redditors have raved about Ewa Michalak bras and apparently if you want good bras, Polish companies make some of the best.
-
The Details: It’s hard to find sources on their ownership because they’re Polish, but I believe the company is owned by Ewa Michalak (the founder). They don’t have a public diversity policy though diversity might not be as much of a focus in Poland (though it should be everywhere!). They do not have a profile on OpenSecrets.
-
What they have: Bras, bra tops, underwear, swimwear, and lingerie
-
Pricing: Mid-range. Their cheapest bra was a nursing bra for $58 and most expensive bra I found was for $138.
-
Where to order: You can order on their website to ship to the US or Canada, but international shipping costs will vary and may be expensive. You can also ask your local bra store/boutique to see if they carry them.
