Where Not to Shop for Bras

Check out my Where to Shop for Bras post for good companies.

ThirdLove: Founded by current CEO Heidi Zak, David Spector, Ra’el Cohen and funded through venture capital. They do not have a profile on Open Secrets. For diversity, they do not have a clear statement/page supporting it on their site. In 2019 ThirdLove faced backlash from employees who said the company’s “by women, for women” tagline did not reflect the toxic realities of working there. New hires could not negotiate their starting salaries despite those salaries being low per industry standards and employees were told they can’t leave before 6pm, work from home, or skip a happy hour. These policies directly impact working mothers, who you think the company would want to support! Most of the toxic behavior seemed to stem from co-founder David Spector, Heidi Zak’s husband. Although the article came out in 2019, recent Glassdoor reviews suggest the culture has not changed much. On top of this – Heidi Zak and David Spector went to Israel in May 2025 and met with the President Isaac Herzog and visited the site of the October 7th Nova Music Festival attack. In their IG post, they made no mention of Palestinians or the genocide occuring.

  • My thoughts: One of my pet peeves is when companies that make products for women (like bras) are run by men, especially arrogant cocky men who have no idea what their actual consumer (women) want. In the Vox article discussing employee’s issues, David Spector was consistently named as the driver of the toxic workplace policies and was the leader behind an aggressive anti-Victoria’s Secret campaign that didn’t make sense to the actual women working there. ThirdLove also tries to hide his involvement to seem more like it’s completely run by women – per the article: “…although ThirdLove doesn’t necessarily hide Spector, they do make him less visible than Zak and Cohen. Click on the “Our Story” page on ThirdLove’s website and you’ll see a large photo of Zak and Cohen alongside a heartwarming origin story. Spector isn’t mentioned anywhere.” I checked the website and this is still the case. All of this BS and then they go to Israel and meet with the President this year?? No thank you.

American Eagle/Aerie: Have you heard about the eugenics-themed Sydney Sweeney ad? Yeah, that was these guys. The sad part is their share price has recently soared, though whether that’s from MAGA support or their positive Q2 earnings report is unclear.

True&Co, Warner’s, Olga: Owned by Basic Resources, a family-owned company. They do not have a public diversity policy. Although Basic Resources did not spend any money on lobbying the last two years, individuals who are in upper management or otherwise work at Basic Resources gave $333,332 to United Democracy Project, which is the super PAC for AIPAC (more info about AIPAC here). AIPAC and their United Democracy Project super PAC fund pro-Israel candidates in primaries to defeat pro-Palestinian and progressive candidates. Given the large size of the donation ($333K) its likely that it came from leadership at Basic Resources versus employees. For context, according to LinkedIn Basic Resources has at most 200 employees, which means that even if they had the max 200 employees contributing, each employee would need to give $1,667 or more – which seems unlikely.

Victoria’s Secret, AdoreMe (owned by Victoria’s Secret): Publicly traded with Blackrock as the largest shareholder (14.3%) and Brett Blundy the second largest at 13.11%. Victoria’s Secret has spent $180K on lobbing from 2023 through 2025. They do support Inclusion & Belonging and have employee resource groups though they don’t list what those are unlike other companies. I don’t recommend them as they spend money on lobbying.

Savage X Fenty: Founded by Rihanna but she currently only retains a 30% ownership stake with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy owning the majority. Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy is not great, check out more on them here.

SKIMS: Founded by Kim Kardashian, don’t feel the need to support her.
