COSTCO UPDATE
I have recommended Costco in the past as an alternative, but Costco is now on my sh*t list, which sucks.
Costco decided in August 2025 to not sell mifepristone at its pharmacy locations, citing “lack of demand,” but in reality caved to pressure from far-right groups like Alliance Defending Freedom.
Costco doesn’t know what the demand is, because they have not been stocking the drug! Basically, the August 2025 announcement was their formal decision to not stock the drug after considering it.
If you’re unaware, mifepristone is often called the “abortion pill” because it can be used to end pregnancy (here’s a helpful explainer) but is also very effective in miscarriage management. Due to REMS restrictions on mifepristone, women have a harder time getting medication that they need during an extremely difficult time in their lives. The restrictions dictate that mifepristone can only be dispensed by or under the supervision of a certified prescriber or by a certified pharmacy.
As Megan Kling in Wisconsin described her experience with her doctor:
“The only intervention Kling needed was mifepristone, but her physician was not certified to prescribe it. “And that’s what infuriates me. It’s not like I needed a specialty surgeon or a high-tech facility. I just needed a pill,” she said.”
I am so sick of women not getting the care that they need because of the right’s obsession with controlling our bodies and our reproductive health and capabilities. If Costco wants to have a pharmacy, they need to stock all relevant medication, not just pick and choose based on “vibes”. This is a medication that helps a lot of women in a variety of ways for reproductive care, and women aren’t getting the care they deserve because of the far right. I’m sick of it!
So no more Costco for me, though if you continue to use them because it’s the only option besides Target and Walmart for you, I get it. If you do currently shop a lot at Costco and want to stop, I recommend trying to do it slowly otherwise it can become overwhelming.
